The hardest part

Being Drew and Anna in NYC has its perks and its challenges. We get to live in and explore what many call the greatest city in the world, try out great food, see world class events and go for evening runs in Central Park. However there are challenges, one of the challenges is that we are over a thousand miles away from most of our friends and family. And this distance is never felt more during times of sadness. Unfortunately, both Drew’s and my family have experienced this in the past week and a half.

Recently, my step mom Pat’s mother, Joyce Cavanaugh, passed away from medical complications. She was a warm and caring woman who made my whole family feel right at home from the moment we met her. She had a love for life that included sports, Black Velvet Whiskey and her family. She lived a good life, and will be missed terribly by all who knew her.

And, just this past Monday, Drew’s cousin’s husband, Matt Jegerlehner, passed away due to Vasculitus. Matt loved to make others laugh and had a warm and caring heart. And he and Katie were a wonderful couple full of love for each other that spread to everyone they encountered. He was taken away after such a short time here on earth, but it is clear through all of the messages on his guest book, he was able to use that time to make a great impact on many people.

Drew and my hearts go out to all of the friends and family of the Cavanaugh’s and the Jegerlehner’s. We wish we could be there with you. In our absence, we send our thoughts and prayers that you will find peace through the memory of the love and laughter that was shared with Joyce and Matt.
