A giant copper lady and a man hanging upside down
Hi!! It’s my turn to up date on the going’s on around here. We have had a very busy past few weeks. I started my second year at school with classes two days a week and an internship the other three. So, it’s like I have an almost full time job and still have to go to class.
So I am working and going to school and don’t really get the perks of either one (not having to work = school perk, not having homework = work perk). Oh well, it is my last year and if the rest of the year flies by like this month did, I will be done before I know it. And Drew is getting busier also. School started at his work, he now has a lot more to do, too.
In our busyness, however, we have found some time to do some fun things, don’t you worry. And we have actually been pretty good about doing our Try it Tuesdays on Wednesdays (or any other day of the week). We just haven’t really been blogging about them. Sorry about that. But here is a recap of the weeks that Drew was deciding what we were doing.
A few weeks ago Drew’s good friend/ old roommate, Cody, came to visit.
And as I have said in the past, I LOVE having visitors. It just makes things more fun, I don’t know why. (Maybe it’s because we go out to eat for most meals and I don’t have to worry about cooking as much??) Cody was no exception to the rule.
Having him here was really a good time. Drew and he were able to spend a lot of “guy time” together, and, we all did some really fun touristy stuff.
One of our events was to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We had tried it once before with some other visitors (holla Dan and Alan!), but we missed the last ferry by minutes.
This time we made it to the ferry, however, it started raining on our way there. While we did catch some good glimpses of her from under our umbrellas, we didn’t get to spend too much time there.
So, when the next lucky visitor comes, they might just get to go along on our third attempt to see the giant copper lady. Hopefully, what they say about the third time will be true!
And then, last night we went to see something truly incredibly ridiculous. We saw David Blaine in Central Park, hanging upside down! David Blaine is hanging upside down for 60 hours in a build up to a “Dive of Death” which will be live on T.V. He isn’t really hanging upside down for 60 hours strait though.
Every hour or so he flips upright and gets his vital checked and drinks some fluids (we saw this happen a few times…) And, while he is hanging, he can pull himself to a horizontal position whenever he needs to. That being said, he did have stretches of upside down time that lasted several (10 or 15) minutes. (Try hanging upside down for 5 minutes and see how you feel.)
And, he lets anyone come and take pictures with him. So, Drew and I got to be pictured with DB and we actually had a (short) conversation him, which was cool.
It is still pretty ridiculous though. I mean, I was standing there last night thinking, “I am standing here watching a guy hand upside down. WHAT?!? and WHY?!?”
I have thought about it a little more and still can’t decide if it is more ridiculous that he is (not really) hanging upside down for 60 hours, or that Drew and I stood and watched him for a part of it. Well, it is definitely something I will always remember.
