Jump and Run with the Pope

Last weekend, Anna and I met up with a friend of mine who I met a couple years ago at the HighEdWebDev Conference. They had tickets to see a show called Fuerzabruta so we tried to get down to the theater on Friday evening to get cheaper rush tickets.

Sadly, my sense of direction was confused and after we got off the subway I led Anna east when we were supposed be headed west (or the other way around). She finally convinced me (I admit I can be stubborn) and we made it just in time to see two girls do a fist pump. They had purchased the last tickets (cue clench-fisted slow-motion “Noooooooooooo”).

March Happiness

We went to a Knicks game last Sunday and it was one of the worst sports experiences of my life.

The loudest cheers of the night came from parents yelling for their scantily-clad, 12-year-old daughters dancing to “Low” during timeouts (Apple-bottom jeans and the boots with the fur!).

Trying Times at the Olympic Trials

Fred Lebow StatueI stood atop the Fred Lebow Statue at the finish of the 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials in Central Park, my left arm slung around Fred’s bronze shoulders.

I gazed off into the distance as Fred gazed down at his watch as the last of the runners trickled in. I wish that if we had waited long enough, we would’ve seen Ryan Shay power up that last incline, too.

BIG Finish

Alan Webb, Kevin Sullivan, and John Rankin I woke up this morning and started to prepare for my first race in exactly 364 days (the last race being the 2006 Twin Cities Marathon 5K Run/Walk which I completed in a tidy 20:00). I’d like to say I planned it that way…you know, for dramatic effect and to keep up my two race/year average.

Nevertheless, the old pre-race habits came back right away: lace up shoes, attach timing chip, crumple up race number and put in mouth, eat a box of Kraft Mac and Cheese (OK, I threw that one in for fun).
